Welcome to the Bee Music Studios FAQ. If you’re considering piano lessons in St. Thomas, Ontario, you may find the answer here. These are some of the questions I’m asked most often by parents, new students, and adult learners. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please feel free to get in touch.
Where is the studio located?
Bee Music Studios is located at 70 Riverbank Drive, St. Thomas, Ontario.
What age do you recommend starting piano lessons?
Most children are ready for private piano lessons around age 6 or 7, depending on their attention span, fine motor skills, and interest in music. Teens and adults are always welcome too!
Do I need a piano before starting lessons?
Yes. A full-size acoustic or digital piano is recommended for piano lessons and home practice. A touch-sensitive keyboard can be adequate for beginners, but it is not ideal for developing proper technique, hand position, and finger strength. As students progress, having a full-size piano with weighted keys provides the best foundation for learning and practice.
How much practice is expected?
Consistent, focused practice is more important than long practice sessions. I provide age-appropriate practice goals for every student.
Do parents attend lessons?
For younger beginners, parents may observe portions of lessons so they can help with practice at home. Older students usually attend independently.
What if we miss a lesson?
There is no refund for missed lessons; however, I do offer make-up lessons. Please contact me directly for studio policy details.
How much do lessons cost?

Where should I park?
Please park on the street where parking is permitted. Be mindful of our neighbours by avoiding blocked driveways and fire hydrants, and please avoid turning around in neighbours’ driveways.
Is there a waiting room?
Yes. A comfortable waiting area is available for parents and siblings during lesson times.
How much should I expect to spend on music books?
Most students purchase 2–4 books per year. The average cost is approximately $50–$70 annually, depending on the student’s level and repertoire.
Do students need extra music besides their lesson books?
Often, yes. Throughout the year, I may recommend seasonal music, recital pieces, duets, or repertoire that matches the student’s interests and goals.
Are there any fees besides tuition?
Tuition covers weekly lessons. Additional fees may apply throughout the year for books, recital participation, festivals, examinations, or special events.
Do students have to participate in recitals?
Recitals are encouraged because they give students an opportunity to celebrate their progress, build confidence, and share their music with family and friends. You can choose whether to participate in recitals, but every student is supported at a level that feels comfortable for them.
Do you teach voice lessons for children?
Voice lessons are currently offered for students ages 14 and older. I work with teens and adults who want to develop healthy vocal technique, confidence, and performance skills.
